Don't you find it ironic that on a Web page concerning, by one theory, the detrimental effects of egotism, one should run across a little section dedicated to nothing but the author's own ego? But because many of you Floyd fans have e-mailed me for more information about, well, me, then I guess I'll oblige.
Ask and ye shall receive.

Name: Bret Urick

Born: May 19, 1979 (the same year "the Wall" album was released.)

Age: 26

Hometown: Albany, Georgia. (That's in the South East of the United States for those non-American Floyd fans…or for those American Floyd fans who just don't know their nation's geography.) Albany is rather famous for many things: the Albany Civil Rights Movement in the '60's , the birthplace of singer Ray Charles on September 23, 1930, and, of course, the ungodly heat and gnats..

Interests: Writing (fiction…and this "Wall" analysis, of course), reading (everything), playing guitar and ukulele, listening to music, watching movies.

Speaking of music, favorite bands: the Beatles, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Coldplay, Red House Painters, Clem Snide, Iron & Wine, Damien Rice

Education: Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Georgia.

Favorite Writers: William Faulkner, James Joyce, Kurt Vonnegut, Toni Morrison, Alice Walker, Tim O'Brien, George Saunders, Joseph Conrad, Howard Zinn, and on and on.

Favorite Books: though the list is endless, these are just a few. William Faulkner - Sound and the Fury, As I Lay Dying, Sanctuary, Light in August, Absalom, Absalom! James Joyce - Ulysses (the best novel ever written, in my opinion). Ernest Hemingway - The Sun Also Rises . J.D. Salinger - Nine Stories. Salvador Plascencia - The People of Paper.Tim O'Brien - the Things They Carried, In the Lake of the Woods, Alice Walker - Possessing the Secret of Joy, By the Light of My Father's Smile, Matthew Scully - Dominion: the Power of Man, the Suffering of Animals, and the Call to Mercy, George Saunders - CivilWarLand in Bad Decline, Kurt Vonnegut - (everything, but my favorites of his are...) Slaughterhouse-Five, Breakfast of Champions, Sirens of Titan, Timequake, Brian Greene - The Fabric of the Cosmos. Howard Zinn - A People's History of the United States, and on and on...

Favorite Movies: like the previous list, this one could be endless. These are a few off the top of my head. the Godfather I & II, the Thin Red Line, the Sixth Sense, Fight Club, the Station Agent, the Goonies, The Wall (of course!), Seven, the Lord of the Rings trilogy (I'm one of the few who actually like the movies more than the novel).

If anyone would like to know anything else, feel free to e-mail me.

How 'bout a few pictures while we're at it?
